Educational work has always been an important facet of Harlequin. We aim to widen our audiences' musical horizons in an entertaining and memorable way. Using a wide repertoire, including our own arrangements of folk songs and dances and film and television themes, we have given hundreds of performances at Primary and Secondary schools in seven counties. We have led composition and performance workshops at universities.

Some highlights have been extended composition projects at Palace Wood Primary School, Maidstone, at Lavender Primary School, Enfield and at University of Hertfordshire and Colchester Institute. We have given several children's concerts at the Purcell Room, London.

Our schools concerts typically include well-known tunes and instrumental demonstrations (we play up to 17 different instruments) but also have a strong emphasis on music theatre and contemporary music. Communication is paramount and all concerts feature verbal introductions and many will include vocal and instrumental participation which may well have been rehearsed by us in advance. Programmes include many cross-curricular links and may be tailored to meet the needs of individual schools.
